Strike while the climate is hot!

ISN inspires, supports and nurtures student action

Concerned about the state of the planet and the lack of meaningful action from governments and major industries to implement policies that would ensure a sustainable future, some of ISN’s very thoughtful and concerned students joined the Global Climate Strike last Friday, September 20, adding their voices to the chorus of millions of young people all over the world to insist that policy makers listen to the science that explains the climate crisis and do something about it!

Ignited by the words and actions of 16 year old Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg, our own curriculum that increasingly implements learning for sustainable development and by parents who pass on the importance of engaging in sustainable practices on a daily basis, Natascha Booth, grade 11, explained, “The ones who know about it have to wake up the ones who have power.”

ISN’s contribution to the growing movement included a host of middle school students and several parents impressively well versed in the issues. Cody, grade 7, is strikingly conscious that,  “All of the filth we have in the world is being passed on to our generation, so now we have to take care of it and I’m trying to help the clean-up”. Jean-Michel joined his son, Raphael, grade 8 : “Je suis ici parce que je pense que c’est important de travailler à tous les niveaux ; familial, individuel, ville, pays, et Nations Unis”.

As teachers, we celebrate our students’ efforts as environmental campaigners and will continue to be actively at their sides!  Keep an eye out for future climate actions. We need you all!
